Bird identifier for iPhone

Know what bird that is.

Point your camera at the bird. BirdLens reads its plumage, shape, and markings and names the most likely species — the moment you snap.

① The species

One photo, the right name.

Every photo returns a named species with a confidence level, not a vague guess. When two birds look alike, BirdLens shows how sure it is — the same way a careful birder hedges in the field.

Identifications are a guide, not a verdict. For rare records, banding, or anything that matters, confirm with a field expert.

② The match

The right species, confirmed.

Look-alikes are everywhere in birding. BirdLens reads the bird's field marks and matches the likely species, with a confidence indicator — confirm it, or pick another candidate if it's off.

  • Frame the whole bird — shape and posture carry the ID.
  • A confidence ring shows how sure the match is.
  • Not quite right? Pick another candidate in a tap.

③ The life list

Your life list, growing.

Save every bird you identify into a personal life list on your device. Sort, filter, and watch your list fill out — species by species, family by family, season after season.

FAQ

Good questions, straight answers.

How accurate is the identification?

Each result comes with a confidence level, and BirdLens shows alternative candidates when two species look alike. It's a strong field guide, not the final word — for rare records, confirm with an expert.

Do I need to create an account?

No. Your life list, identification history, and preferences are primarily stored on your device. Optional Sign in with Apple and server-backed family features use an account. We use limited PostHog product analytics and AppsFlyer install attribution without IDFA or cross-app advertising tracking.

What happens to the photos I take?

When online recognition is enabled, a photo you take is sent securely to the recognition service to identify the bird. It is not retained after processing, shared, or used for advertising.

Is anything free?

Yes — the birding guides are free to read, in the app and on this site. Full identification and species profiles are part of BirdLens Pro.

How do I cancel?

Cancel anytime in your App Store account settings. There's no free trial and no lock-in — the subscription simply stops renewing.

Which devices are supported?

BirdLens is an iPhone app. Live Activities appear on iPhones with the Dynamic Island and on the Lock Screen.
